A NEW OPTION FOR CATARACT PATIENTS

Chadwick Norton, M.D., was the first surgeon at Alexandria Eye and Laser Center to implant the new Alcon Acrysof® ReSTOR® lens last month. Surgeons at Alexandria Eye and Laser Center were among the first in the country to be trained and complete this procedure using the latest advancement in technology that gives individuals with cataract the highest level of freedom from glasses.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved the new AcrySof ® ReSTOR® lens. Until recent approval by the FDA, most people in their 50s and 60s with cataracts received a lens replacement that only provided good distance vision. Today, patients have a new option. For those with cataracts, clinical studies indicate that ReSTOR is the lens implant that provides the greatest freedom from glasses-93% of patients report never needing glasses for distance and 81% report never needing glasses for near. Patients should schedule an appointment with an eye surgeon to determine if the procedure is right for them.
